6 Food and Drink Events Around Vancouver That You’ve Gotta Try This October

Thanksgiving feasts and Halloween treats—you've gotta try these eats in October

We had our first proper rain day of the season in Vancouver this week, with an absolutely breathtaking rainbow and sunset to follow. I got to wear boots, tights and a sweater, and splash through the puddles. I freaking love the fall! Obviously, check in with me mid-March when I am screaming for sunshine, but right now I am all about crisp pears and apples from the Okanagan and Similkameen, caldo verde soup (get your soup on when the temp goes down) and a half-sweet PSL (pumpkin spice latte, of course) on my morning dog walk.  There are so many treats in store this month with fun Halloween pop-ups, so get going and support as many as you can.

Look Beyond Butter Chicken With Jugal’s

Learn more about delicious Bengali food with Jugal’s at their pop-up supper clubs or pick up something tasty from their kitchen on Industrial Ave. Halloween meets Diwali on Saturday, October 25, with “spooky cocktails, bhog thali, street food twists, music and costumes.” They also have two Bengali Supper Club events coming up in November that sound fun: all food, drinks and wine pairings are included for $101, and you can “experience the bold, soulful flavours of Bengal. At each dinner, guests gather around a communal long table for an evening of storytelling, connection and unforgettable food.” Yes please!

AYCE at Luppolo

I’m always looking for a great deal, so check out Luppolo’s All You Can Eat pizza menu, which comes with appetizers and dessert for just $35 per person. There are some rules: you need a table of four to participate, there is a 90-minute time limit and pizzas are served one at a time per two people. But there are 12 delicious pizzas to choose from, and I bet you and your crew can make a decent hole in the menu within the allotted time. Hot tip—if they have their Limoncello Sour Weisse on tap when you visit, don’t skip it.

ZUBU Takes Flight

Who knew the two words to stop me dead in my tracks would be “ramen flight.” Head over to ZUBU Ramen and slurp your way through a trio of different steamy soups: Tonkotsu Ramen, Creamy Chicken Ramen and Spicy Vegan for $22.95. They also have a decent happy hour (hello, Takoyaki and gyoza for under $10). As an eyes-bigger-than-stomach kind of person when it comes to bowls of soup, I appreciate that they do mini ramen bowls for when you just want a soupy hit.

Black Lagoon Is Back

Drink in the darkness at the Butcher & Bullock for October at the gothy Black Lagoon pop-up, back to bring spooky vibes and themed cocktails and eats to brighten the fall season. Choose from creative craft cocktails, including the Book of Blood and Death Rattle while you dodge skeletons and ghouls and snack on Beef Heart Tartare and charcoal popcorn. Reservations are recommended to wallow in the weirdly sinister joy of it all.

Reasons to Be Thankful

It’s been a tough year, but a Thanksgiving Bottomless Brunch never fails to make me glow with gratitude. ARC Restaurant at the Fairmont Waterfront is hosting its ever-popular bottomless brunch over the holiday weekend (October 11-13), with a Thanksgiving twist for $79 for adults and $40 for children. Dive into unlimited dishes, including pulled pork Benedict on cornbread, lobster mac and cheese, brie en croûte with berry marmalade and turkey skillet with cranberry sauce. Reservations are likely to be essential
