Head down to Strathcona this weekend to enjoy the cherry blossoms and to pick up some baba-approved Ukrainian dumplings
The Association of United Ukrainian Canadians (AUUC) has been busy this March. Over the past month, teams of volunteers have been busy making the quintessential Ukrainian treat: perogies. These homemade dumplings are filled with savory mashed potatoes and cheese and are now available to order online.
All perogies are sold frozen (and must be kept that way until cooked), and you can grab a bag of one dozen for $10, or two baker’s dozen for $18.
There’s always a high demand for perogies, so the AUUC is kindly requesting that you limit your order to four dozen. (If they sell out online, there will be more available to order in person at the event on Sunday, April 2nd).
Perogy pick-up happens on Sunday, April 2nd at the Ukrainian Cultural Centre (805 East Pender Street) from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. There will also be a craft and bake sale, so you can browse locally made goods and treat yourself to some dessert. All proceeds from the bake sale will go towards supporting humanitarian aid for Ukraine.
For perogy preparation and serving instructions, or if you’d like to make them yourself, check out this traditional family recipe.
