Choose from one of B.C.'s best to drink pink on June 27 for International Rosé Day
If there is an official way to kick off summertime in B.C., then please let it be International Rosé Day. Landing effortlessly between the summer solstice in late June and Canada Day on July 1, drinking pink just seems right this time of year. Celebratory, refreshing and perfectly pretty in your wine glass, I chose 12 rosés from B.C. wineries that deserve to be enjoyed now and all season long.
The Mission Hill Reserve Rosé 2024 has those essential summery notes of strawberries, watermelon and rose petals, as well as a bright acidity and a clean finish. This bottle is a perfect picnic wine paired with seasonal fruit and other nibbly bits.
From Osoyoos, Nk’Mip’s 2024 Rosé is 60 percent Syrah and 40 percent Cabernet Franc. Expect hints of strawberries dancing with delicate white flowers. This wine is lovely with a goat cheese and strawberry salad, or roasted zucchini and eggplant on grilled bread drizzled with quality EVOO sea salt and a quick grind of black pepper.
The Lunessence Winery 2022 Rosé has a dreamy, pale, petal pink shade and is a blend of 51 percent Malbec, 33 percent Merlot, 14 percent Cabernet Franc and 2 percent Syrah. If you’ve not visited this certified organic winery in Summerland, you really should. Hit their patio for one of the best views of Lake Okanagan while you graze on charcuterie, contemplate life and slowly sip the afternoon away.
Culmina Saignée is a delightful rosé from the winery in Oliver with whispers of red currant, watermelon and nectarine. Brightly acidic with a round finish, pair this with grilled salty cheese like halloumi and olives for tapas night on the deck.
The Red Barn Transfiction Rosé 2024 is a beauty from the winery based in Oliver. A nice balance of acidity and crispness results in a refreshing rosé that pairs well with shellfish like prawns or scallops. Try adding a splash to your salad dressing too.
Dirty Laundry Vineyards’ 2023 Hush Rosé is the result of Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Pinot Noir and Cabernet Sauvignon playing absolutely beautifully together. A blush-pink shade, this wine begs to be paired with a fresh niçoise salad for the perfect patio lunch—Le Sud style, right here in B.C.
CedarCreek Estate’s 2024 Pinot Noir Rosé is a new release worth getting in on while you can. Think notes of strawberries and cream, followed by hints of grapefruit and rhubarb. Try this rosé with a wood-fired pizza on a warm summer evening—chef’s kiss.
Township 7 Interlude 2024 Rosé “marks a bold new chapter for Township 7,” says the winery’s Maggie Peak. “In the face of catastrophic cold weather and significant crop loss in 2024, our passionate winemaking team rose to the challenge with creativity and resilience. Sourcing grapes from premium, sustainably farmed vineyards in Washington and California, we crafted distinctive wines that reflect our unwavering commitment to quality.” These wines “support local B.C. business, employees and suppliers. It’s more than grapes in the ground; it’s about supporting the people and the community,” she says.
Road 13 Honest John’s Rosé hovers around the $20 mark—and that is some great value for a nice quality B.C. rosé. Keep a few in your wine fridge this summer and serve with plump B.C. berries and a dark chocolate platter for dessert.
Laughing Stock Vineyards 2024 Rosé from this Penticton-based winery is a blend of Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon, with hints of plump red cherry, pomegranate and strawberry anchored by notes of deeper flavours like plum, cassis and fresh mint and basil. A medium-bodied rosé that can hold its own against a grilled rack of sizzling pork ribs at your next backyard barbecue.
Solvero Wines’ 2024 Rosé is tasting room exclusive, meaning you won’t find it at wine or liquor stores. So, a visit to this Summerland winery is essential if you want to purchase a bottle. Not a hardship touring around B.C., filling up your box with rosé like this, no? Love this with a charcuterie platter, which you can also nosh on right at the winery.
Lightning Rock Winery’s 2023 Cab Franc Rosé is the perfect summertime sipper, with notes of raspberries, strawberries and floral hints. A little spice is a pleasant and unexpected surprise too, meaning this wine is no blushing wallflower and will stand up to a red sauce pasta or French ratatouille.
