Local Wellness Events Happening in October

From yoga retreats to breath workshops, make sure you focus on self-care this October with local wellness events across BC

October 10th is World Mental Health Day, and here at BC Living we’re highlighting wellness and self-care for the entire month. We know how hard it is to take a moment to slow down amidst this busy autumn season—so we’ve created a list of wellness events happening across the province to help you pull back and rest.  

Now is the perfect time to invest in some R&R and be gentle with yourself. Whether it’s signing up for weekly yoga classes, investing in a local retreat, or embracing an evening of slow breathing and intuitive body work, we’re excited to settle in and focus on health this October.

EMOTIONAL RELEASE BREATHWORK

Where: Vancouver

When: Thursday, October 17 | 6pm – 8:30pm

Ever wondered what your body would say if it could speak? Join Qi Integrated Health for an evening of somatic exploration and transformative breathwork that’s decided to facilitate deep emotional release. 

Practice conscious circular breathing and unlock and process your stored emotions. It’s a powerful technique that helps individuals self-heal with personal growth—all within a safe space to explore these inner emotions. 

HERBAL WINTER WELLNESS

Where: Victoria

When: Saturday, October 18 | 1pm – 3pm

Are you ready for the cold and flu season? Join the Compost Education Centre in Victoria for their Herbal Winter Wellness workshop and discover how to incorporate helpful herbs to boost immune support, support your lungs and sinus’, or just general wellbeing.

In this workshop you’ll learn how to make herbal syrups and fire cider, as well as hands-on medicine making! It’s the perfect way to learn how to stock and use your own DIY herbal medicine cabinet.

YOGA AND WELLNESS RETREAT

Where: Salt Spring Island

When: October 18-20

Just like their previously offered Yoga Getaways, this time The Salt Spring Centre of Yoga is offering a newer and improved experience! Enjoy a 2-night and 3-day retreat in the heart of Salt Spring Island where you can leave all your worries and busy October tasks behind and instead rejuvenate in the ocean air.

Expect asana classes, introduction to breathwork and meditation, relaxing in nature, as well as delicious lacto-vegetarian meals. It’s perfect for people of all ages, genders, races, and levels of yoga practitioners. 

BC BRAIN WELLNESS PROGRAM 5TH YEAR ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION

Where: Vancouver

When: Saturday, October 19 | 1pm – 4:30pm

Celebrate all the things the BC Brain Wellness Program has offered since its inception in 2019. Join them for reflection, workshops, a creative gallery, booths, door prizes, as well as light catering and a reception-style networking session.

Expect to focus on aerobic exercises, yoga poses that incorporate breath and movement, lyrical phrase music rounds, improv sessions filled with laughter, as well as a “Food is Medicine” based nutritional workshop! The event is sure to leave you feeling refreshed and energized for the rest of the month.

ART FOR WELLNESS

Where: Prince George

When: Saturday, October 19 | 1pm – 3pm

Embark on a 6-week journey with Two Rivers Gallery where participants can reconnect with their own therapeutic art skills. A powerful tool for emotional health and well-being, art allows us to express and connect. 

This 18+ workshop introduces various art mediums without acting as a lesson. It’s meant to connect participants to themselves and to build upon their own healthy perspectives.

SQUAMISH SOUND BATH

Where: Squamish

When: Saturday, October 26th | 7pm – 8:30pm 

Stop by Breath Fitness Squamish for this workshop led by Mike Reed, a musician and sound healing practitioner from Sound Quest. Over 90 minutes you’ll get to slow down, rest, and experience healing vibrations thanks to the soothing soundscapes of Gongs, Crystal Singing Bowls, Tibetan Singing Bowls, and Steel Tongue Drums.

What’s a sound bath? It’s a meditative experience where you are “bathed” in sound waves to help balance and heal your mind, body, and spirit. Some of the benefits include: reducing stress and anxiety; deep relaxation; better sleep quality; emotional healing; and an enhanced meditation practice.
