Kate Middleton continues to rule as a style icon with her stunning ensembles on the 2016 Royal Tour to Canada
The Royal Family has wrapped up their 2016 tour across British Columbia and Yukon—and there’s no doubt that all eyes were on Kate Middleton’s wardrobe. The fashion-forward Duchess of Cambridge has proved time after time she can carry off any outfit with effortless grace and elegance, and she continues to be one of the top style influencers around the world.
From stepping off the plane in a striking blue dress to wearing red three times in three days, Kate made waves with her fabulous outfit choices on the Royal Visit.

The Duchess arrived in Victoria with her family wearing a cobalt blue bespoke dress made by luxury British designer Jenny Packham. She also wore the Queen’s diamond and platinum maple leaf brooch which she had also borrowed on her 2011 visit to Canada. Kate completed her elegant look with a couture hat with maple leaf detailing by Lock & Co, nude Gianvito Rossi pumps and a subtle L.K Bennett clutch.
Kate touched down in Vancouver on the second day of the tour debuting a stunning red and white dress. The embroidered Alexander McQueen from the Resort 2017 Collection was customized with fitted sleeves and a tighter waistline, giving the Duchess a perfectly feminine look (original dress pictured right). Paired with a Miu Miu clutch and scarlet red heels, Kate let her hair down in loose curls and was glowing in her Canadian-coloured outfit. This was inarguably Kate’s most talked about look of the entire visit.
Kate was shining at the Government House reception gala in a scarlet evening dress by British design duo Preen. Channeling classic 1950s glamour, the simple detailing on the dress is what made it so special. From the asymmetrical neckline to the draping and folds, this look was indeed made for royalty. The Queen’s maple leaf brooch added just the right amount of bling, along with drop pearl earrings by Soru and heels and a clutch by Russell and Bromley.
On the couple’s visit to Bella Bella, Kate chose a high-street look while spending time in the Great Bear Rainforest. Although it was raining, the Duchess was prepared with a Holland & Holland trench coat, dark wash jeans from Zara and brown knee-high boots by Penelope Chilvers.
Underneath her coat, Kate stayed cozy (yet classy) in a blue J.Crew sweater, a checkered Topshop shirt and a white vest. She showed off her Pippa Small gold drop earrings, and wore her hair half-up, half-down, ideal for a casual day.
The couple spent the afternoon in Kelowna, where Kate dazzled in a simple, green Dolce & Gabbana dress. The preppy knee-length number had gold buttons on the front, and a bow at the top, which added a little bit of fun. She carried a nude clutch and wore matching pointed-toe heels—the perfect choice for a daytime look.
The Duke and Duchess travelled to Whitehorse later that day, where Kate continued her green streak with a classic Hobbs coat, and a black leather belt around her waist. She was indeed ready for the chilly evening, but kept her legs bare and wore the same nude stilettos that she wore earlier on in the day.
Kate was the lady in red yet again during her visit to the MacBride Museum of Yukon History in Whitehorse the next morning. The Duchess covered up in a bright red Carolina Herrera coat, and accessorized her outfit with a burgundy Mulberry clutch and maroon pumps from Tod’s. Pulling her hair back into a low bun, she looked effortlessly elegant in a colour that seemed to be a favourite on this tour.
As the royal couple headed to Carcross for the rest of the day, Kate made a quick change into a grey coat with ribbed sleeves and a belted waist by Canadian designer Sentaler, also a favourite of Sophie Grégoire Trudeau. She paired the alpaca wool outerwear with dark skinny jeans, cowboy boots by R.Soles and earrings by Shelley Macdonald.
Kate left us in awe yet again as she spent Thursday afternoon with her family at a children’s party held at Government House in Victoria. Wearing a gorgeous See by Chloé pointelle-knit cotton-blend dress with an intricate lace design and frilled neckline, the Duchess was glowing as she played with balloons and little animals with her adorable children. She added a leather belt by Acne Studios, and wore simple wedges by Monsoon Fleur, along with yellow gold diamond-leaf earrings by one of her favourite designers, Kiki McDonough. And of course, in true royal fashion, the mother of two left the party without a single mark on her perfect cream dress.
The next morning, Kate chose a simple Somerset by Alice Temperley blouse and a fitted blazer by Canadian designer Smythe Les Vestes (aptly called “The Duchess”) as the royal couple took a canoe trip to Haida Gwaii. With cowboy boots by R. Soles and dark skinny jeans, she looked fabulously preppy and comfortable as she spent the afternoon visiting the Haida Heritage Centre and Museum.
The Duchess donned red again, as she changed into a cashmere mix-cable crew by Really Wild Clothing for the rest of the afternoon. Pairing the sweater with skinny Zara jeans in khaki and hoop earrings by Kiki McDonough, Kate enjoyed traditional music, celebrations and Haida Nation dancing.
The Duchess opted for a polished, casual look on her last day of the tour, as the royal couple visited The Cridge Centre for the Family in Victoria. She wore a ribbed off-the-shoulder top by H&M, J.Crew Avery heels in tweed and black skinny jeans and a white blazer by Zara. Pearl drop earrings by Annoushka and an Asprey Woodland Charms Necklace added just the right amount of glam.
