Port Moody might officially be known as the “City of the Arts,” but their parks, shopping and waterfront beaches offer a ton of different things to do. With the variety of activities this city has to offer, it’se easy to spend a day (or more!) exploring.
Rocky Point Park is the heart of Port Moody. Besides its amazing location next to the Burrard Inlet, Rocky Point also has a huge selection of amenities to choose from. You can rent kayaks, canoes and paddle boards, take Fido to the off-leash dog park, go for a swim at the outdoor pool or even roll on down to the skate park. After you’ve worked up an appetite, stop for a bite at Pajo‘s, a local fish and chips joint, and enjoy a view of the park from the comfort of outdoor picnic tables and chairs.
Newport Village houses over 50 different merchants, with boutiques, dining options, cafes, fashion and more all available. This quaint shopping centre, with its locally owned stores, has a welcoming feel. Some of our personal favourites include The Village Toy Shop, which stocks hard-to-find toys and offers “Toyologists” – expert employees – to help you find the right item, and Wish On a Star, a one-of-a-kind family-operated shop that sells unique home decor, jewelry and more, making it the ideal place to shop for the person who has everything.
It should come as no surprise that Port Moody lives up to its title of “City of The Arts”, with its array of arts and culture exhibitions, galleries and performances. Look no further than the Port Moody Arts Centre, home to numerous plays and concerts throughout the year. The space features three gallery spaces and houses the Inlet Theatre. If you live in the Lower Mainland, Vancouver isn’t the only place to soak up some summer rays. Port Moody has a plethora of waterfront beaches and parks that neighbour the ocean or swim-approved lakes. The most popular and accessible ones are Bunstzen Lake, Belcarra Park and White Pine Beach next to Sasamat Lake.
The Boathouse‘s premium location on the shorefront of Rocky Point Park offers one of the best views in town. Enjoy one of The Boathouse’s delicious West Coast-inspired meals, like the Cedar Plank Maple Salmon, while overlooking the Burrard Inlet.
Apporximately 6km, The Shoreline Trail connects the city of Port Moody and is shared by walkers, runners, bikers and dog-lovers alike. The trail is open year-round with several access points, making it the perfect walking trail to explore.
Sometimes we all need to get away. Next time you think about taking a weekend getaway, consider checking out At the Beach Retreat in Port Moody.
