1. Cindy Sherman — Until March 8, 2020

Featuring 170 works by the American artist known for her conceptual portraits, this exhibition focuses on Sherman’s manipulation of her own appearance and her deployment of material derived from a range of cultural sources, including film, advertising and fashion. Organized by the National Portrait Gallery (London), in collaboration with the Vancouver Art Gallery, it is the first retrospective of Sherman’s work in Canada in 20 years.

2. Out of Concealment — Until April 5, 2020

Terri-Lynn Williams-Davidson honours Indigenous feminine power by reimagining supernatural figures from Haida tradition. Her vivid portraits—which feature the artist herself and have been compared to Cindy Sherman’s style—use photographic collage, creative design, and even the subtle integration of designs by renowned Haida artist Robert Davidson.

3. Campari Presents Dante NYC at Homer Street Café and Bar — Friday, November 1 to Tuesday, November 5

NYC meets YVR at Homer Street Café and Bar when Dante NYC (voted “The World’s Best Bar 2019”) takes over for five nights of apertivo-style cocktails, including a negroni fountain and Italian-inspired bites. Caffe Dante opened in 1915, was renamed in 2015 and recently received the top ranking in the 2019 World’s Best 50 Bars Awards in London, UK, honoured as 2019 World’s Best Bar by Tales of the Cocktail Spirited Awards.

4. Why I Design — Saturday, November 2

Why I Design explores and celebrates innovation in action with 25 designers stationed throughout the Museum of Vancouver’s galleries. Extending beyond traditional art display or trade show, it provides an alternative to standard presentations by removing walls between disciplines and between designers and the public. Truly, a rare local opportunity to interact with the designers of the products and environments that shape our lives.

5. Lumière Vancouver — Friday, November 1 to Sunday, November 3

Get lit for the annual celebration inspired by light and artistic expression, Lumière Vancouver. This year, the three-day event includes more than 25 interactive art installations at four sites: English Bay, Jim Deva Plaza, Lot 19 and šx????n?q Xwtl’e7én? Square (formerly known as the North Plaza of the Vancouver Art Gallery).

6. Parade of Lost Souls: SOS — Saturday, November 2

Get nautical with the Dusty Flowerpot Cabaret as the Parade of Lost Souls returns with a marine-themed parade through East Vancouver. Look out for floating jellyfish, secret dance parties and theatrical performances throughout the night. (Kids can join in the family-friendly Parade of Little Souls at 7 p.m.)

7. Beanstock Coffee Festival — Saturday, November 2 & Sunday, November 3

Beanstock Coffee Festival features 30 independent micro-roasters, including Agro Coffee Roasters, Luna Coffee, Prototype Coffee, Pallet Coffee Roasters and Rooftop Coffee Roasters. Early bird tickets start at $25, and include two tokens that can be exchanged for 100-gram samples of roasted coffee. (VIP Weekend Passes cost $75, and include unlimited priority entry access to both days of the festival, as well as a Beanstock tote bag containing premium samples and a branded ceramic cup to take home.)

8. Comedypants — Saturday, November 2

Hosted by award-winning comedian Alistair Ogden, Comedypants celebrates its first birthday with an incredible lineup, merch and prizes. Since its inception a year ago, Comedypants has featured dozens of incredible Vancouver comics in a uniquely intimate setting: the partially-abandoned Chinatown Centre Mall. 9. Bear Creek Park Lights — Saturday, November 2 to Friday, November 15

Illuminated trees and light displays dazzle visitors from the water park to the playground, with added activities on November 2nd that include an activity zone, roving performers, food trucks and a shuttle service.
