1. Go Fest – Friday, May 19 to Monday, May 22

Whistler’s Great Outdoors festival includes axe-throwing, adventure movies, wine and art classes, digital photography, free concerts and ‘choose your own adventure’ events all through the long weekend.

2. Mindful Mass Meditation – Saturday, May 20

No time to meditate? Join this mass meditation at the Vancouver Art Gallery on Saturday, May 20th. Join teacher Carolyn Anne Budgell for 30 minutes of peace and quiet, held in the rotunda of the gallery (no props needed, just sit on the stairs).
Doors open at 8:45 a.m. and the meditation begins at 9 a.m. sharp

3. Vancouver Comic Arts Festival – Saturday, May 20 to Sunday, May 21

Comic lovers can head to Yaletown this weekend to check out a two-day celebration of the comic arts with readings, presentations, panel discussions and a large exhibition area featuring publishers, comic authors and artists.

4. The Show at Emily Carr University – Now until Sunday, May 21

Catch the artists of the future at this exhibition of 300 works from this year’s Design, Media and Visual Arts graduates from the Emily Carr University. It’s the final time it will be held at the Granville Island campus.

5. Top Drop – Tuesday, May 23 & Wednesday, May 24

Meet the makers from international terroir-focused wineries, craft breweries, cideries and taste some of the world’s finest tipples at “The Most Awesome Wine Event of the Year”: Top Drop’s The Main Event on May 24th. Wine and food lovers can also enjoy one of the five winemaker dinners at Mamie Taylor’s, Burdock & Co, Provence Marinaside, L’Abattoir and Wildebeest on May 23.

6. Chef Meets BC Grape – Thursday, May 25

Ninety B.C. wineries will be pouring tasters of more than 350 BC VQA wines, paired with small plates by top chefs from local restaurants to celebrate the best of B.C. food and drink. A portion of the proceeds benefit local charities such as Ocean Wise, The Arts Club and the BC Hospitality Foundation.

7. Dance in Transit – Saturday, May 20 to Saturday, September 2

Fighting Vancouver’s ‘no fun’ reputation one footstep at a time, Dance in Transit is a free festival that includes mini-lessons, demonstrations, social dancing, conversation, and connections in outdoor spaces such as Robson Square, Queen Elizabeth Plaza, Plaza of Nations, and Jim Deva Plaza.

8. Talking Trees Tour – Now until October 2017

Sea to Sky Gondola’s new Talking Trees Tour follows the 1.6 km Panorama Trail for a 90-minute excursion with a local First Nations guide and cultural ambassador who shares knowledge of the cultural uses of the alpine forest and points out the variety of local plants that were harvested by Skwxu7mesh Uxwumixw First Nations people for food, technology and medicine.

9. Kitsilano Farmers Market – Now until Sunday, October 22

Spring is in the air (no, really) and the Vancouver Farmers Markets are starting to open for the season. Alongside the Trout Lake Market, Kitsilano is now open for summer 2017 and is home to local farm stalls selling fresh fruit, veggies and other produce; as well as food trucks, local beer, wine and spirit makers, and artisans.
Entry is free, Kitsilano Farmer’s Market runs every Sunday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., 10th Avenue and Larch Street

 

10. Million Dollar Quartet – Now until Sunday, July 9

Set in Sun Records Studio on December 4, 1956, when rock-and-roll legends Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash, Jerry-Lee Lewis and Carl Perkins performed together for the first and only time, this jukebox musical includes hits such as That’s Alright, Folsom Prison Blues, Great Balls of Fire and Blue Suede Shoes.
