A Clockwork Orange at the Rio Theatre – March 12

Known for turning cult film classics into interactive evenings out, East Van’s Rio Theatre is presenting Stanley Kubrick’s beloved Clockwork Orange. Based on Anthony Burgess’s dystopic novel about a life in a future totalitarian England, the film stars Malcolm McDowell as Alex, the rebellious teenager who is sentenced to behaviour modification therapy.

Jann Arden – March 12 and 13

Iconic Canadian singer Jann Arden is stopping on the West Coast while touring her latest album, Everything Almost. The Calgary native, slated to co-host the 2016 Juno Awards for the second time later this spring, first broke out onto the music scene with her hit song, Insensitive and has had 19 top 10 singles throughout her career.

Vancouver Police Recovered Good Auction – March 12

The Vancouver Police are back at it with their annual Recovered Goods Auction in partnership with Able Auctions. An impressive inventory of recovered stolen goods includes over 300 bikes, a great selection of appraised jewellery, electronics, sporting equipment, musical instruments and more. Buyers are welcome to stop by preview events on Thursday, March 10 or Friday, March 11 to see if something catches their eye before registering for Saturday’s bidding.

HSBC World Rugby Seven Series – March 12 and 13

If you’re a fan of rugby (or short shorts), you’ll definitely want to stop by BC Place this weekend for the HSBC Canada Sevens event. The 2015-16 series sees 16 national teams compete for the championship over the course of 10 international tournaments, including Vancouver’s this weekend. The Rugby Sevens also doubles as an Olympic qualifier for Rio 2016. Based on an overwhelming response, 5000 additional upper bowl tickets were released, giving you an extra opportunity to watch rugby at its best.

St. Patrick’s Day at the Market – March 13

Get in the spirit of leprechauns and luck a bit early with a St. Patrick’s Day celebration at the Lonsdale Quay Market. The day kicks off with Celtic dancing presented by Eire Born Irish Dance Society, to be followed by the North Shore Celtic Ensembles. Spot the Lucky Leprechaun throughout the afternoon to earn a free print from Green Leaf Brewing.

Leon Bridges – March 15

Twenty-six-year-old Fort Worth, Texas native Leon Bridges quickly rose to stardom following the 2015 release of his debut album, Coming Home. The old soul has dedicated himself to 1960s R&B and gospel genres, bringing a classic sound back into the contemporary limelight with catchy singles like Coming Home and Smooth Sailin’.

Healthy Chef Competition – March 16

The BC Produce Marketing Association puts a fun spin on fresh produce with the 17th Annual Healthy Chef Competition. The event sees 10 different culinary groups—ranging from schools to restaurants—each prepare and serve approximately 70 plates that incorporate a prominent use of fresh produce. After dinner, the judging panel, featuring esteemed members of the BC Chefs’ Association, will announce award winners, including the recipient of the $1000 prize for the Healthy Half-Your-Plate Award. The BCPMA will also be presenting $7000 to the BC Chefs’ Association Scholarship fund.

Mamie Taylor’s Taste of the States – March 16

Mamie Taylor’s longtable dinner series returns this week with the latest of classic American cuisine. A four-course Tex-Mex dinner kicks off with a welcome margarita, before Chef Tobias Grignon shares delectable jalapeno poppers, tortilla soup, hanger steak and caramel quesadilla dishes.

St. Patrick’s Day at The Irish Heather – March 17

Ballet BC Program 2 – March 17 to 19

B.C.’s very own professional ballet company has commissioned rising French choreographer Medhi Walerski for a full-length work titled, New York. The choreography begins by questioning the balance of order and chaos before considering the human need for celebration—a fitting theme for Ballet BC’s 30th anniversary season.
