1. Talking Stick Festival — Until February 29

Proudly presented on the traditional unceded territories of the Coast Salish People, the theme for the 2020 Talking Stick Festival is Chén?chenstway, “upholding each other, lifting each other up”, and this year’s festival promises to do just that for everyone involved. This festival of extraordinary Indigenous performance and art features some of the best emerging and established Indigenous artists Turtle Island has to offer, with a lineup of theatre, storytelling, writing, music, spoken word, dance, film, visual arts and more!

2. Skate Plaza at the Shipyards — Until March 1

Head to the region’s largest outdoor skating rink (under a retractable roof) for a skate with friends and family. Visit between 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. on February 24 until 26 for free skate rentals to give it a go.

3. Kim’s Convenience — Until March 28

Mr. Kim, a Korean shopkeeper, grapples with both a changing neighbourhood landscape and the chasm between him and his second-generation offspring. This journey of a fractured but loving family forgiving the past and confronting the future is a new Canadian classic. Ins Choi’s hilarious and touching debut play inspired the hit TV show of the same name.

4. Black Strathcona Heritage Walking Tour — Saturday, February 22

Join in the free 6th annual Black Strathcona Heritage Walking Tour to explore various historic sites, buildings, streets and businesses once owned by people of African descent and the consequences of urban renewal in 1958 – 72 to the community. The tour begins at Main & Union (outside the old Jimi Hendrix Shrine/Vie’s Chicken & Steak House) and ends at 897 Keefer (the African Fountain Chapel), with a celebration from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. that everybody is welcome to join.

5. Vancouver International Wine Festival — Saturday, February 22 to March 1

From wine seminars to grand tastings and vinters brunches, the Vancouver International Wine Festival brings the best wine and winemakers to the city for a fun festival that celebrates all things vino.

6. Hannah Gadsby — Monday, February 24 & Tuesday, February 25

Part of the JFL Northwest comedy festival, Hannah Gadsby comes to Vancouver for two nights of thought-provoking stand up. Following the success of her Netflix special, Nanette, the Australian comic brings her unique blend of anger and humour to The Orpheum with her new show, Douglas.

7. BackCountry Brewmaster dinner — Tuesday, February 25

Join Backcountry Brewing Company & CRAFT Beer Market Vancouver for the first collaboration dinner of 2020. Tickets include a welcome beer & amuse bouche followed by four custom created courses each paired with one of Backcountry’s unique brews.

8. 2020 Coastal Dance Festival — Tuesday, February 25 to March 1

Produced by the Dancers of Damelahamid in partnership with the Anvil Centre and The Museum of Anthropology, the Coastal Dance Festival celebrates Indigenous dance from Canada and around the world at New Westminster’s Anvil Centre.

9. Le No Show Vancouver — Wednesday, February 26 to March 1

How much are spectators willing to pay for their ticket to Le No Show Vancouver? As much as the price of a movie and popcorn? The admission price to Butchart Gardens? Grouse Mountain Skyride? A ticket to Ballet BC’s Zone B? The price of a single ticket to a Canucks game? Or nothing at all? This time, the audience gets to decide. And that’s only the first of many decisions to be made throughout the evening. Text messages will run Le NoShow Vancouver every night. Seven young, Vancouver-based actors engage the audience in a festive and interactive experience, where the cost of theatre has to slug it out with its value as an art form.
