2. Mighty Asian Moviemaking Marathon Gala — Saturday, August 31

The Vancouver Asian Film Festival‘s Mighty Asian Moviemaking Marathon (MAMM) celebrates its 14th year of supporting and showcasing emerging local filmmakers. Check out the MAMM14 finalists in the 10-minute short and 1-minute ultra-short categories. Find out which teams will win the adjudicated prizes, and help select the fan’s choice award.

3. Victory Square Block Party — Sunday, September 1

CITR, Discorder and Music Waste Festival present a free all-ages block party with a full roster of bands, plus tasty treats from local vendors and raffle prizes. Proceeds support Megaphone, Vancouver’s street magazine sold by homeless and low-income vendors

4. Native Hip Hop Fest 19 — Friday, August 30 & Saturday, August 31

Featuring Indigenous artists from the Lower Mainland (including Vancouver Poet Laureate Christie Lee), as well as rappers from across the country and the United States, Native Hip Hop Fest 19 celebrates music and spoken word from up-and-coming and established stars.

5. Taiwan Fest — Saturday, August 31 to Monday, September 2

Celebrating the connections between Taiwan and Vietnam, this year’s Taiwan Fest explores the link through cultural discussions, delicious food and both music and visual arts performances. Everything from rock concerts to cooking classes!

6. Soundwalk Sunday Soundwalk — Sunday, September 1

Burrard Bridge turns into a giant musical instrument when artists from the Vancouver Soundwalk Collective and the Soundscape Show (Co-op Radio 100.5 FM) use the railings of Burrard Bridge to create multi-tonal sounds, launching vibrations that reach the walkers behind. In this “noisewalk”, there will be a entire chain of bridge players, creating a mass of resonant pitches with everyday implements. Artists will provide a few light implements, such as maple stems and spoons… or bring your own!

7. West End Circus Festival — Monday, September 2

Join in fun and family-friendly activities, which include a wide variety of circus arts and hoop dance workshops suitable for all ages, abilities, genders and interests. Local performers will be showcasing hoop dance, flow arts and music performances.

8. The Pancakes and Booze Arts Show — Thursday, September 5

Combining art, live music, and (of course) booze and pancakes, the 10th annual Pancakes and Booze Arts Show returns to Vancouver for an evening of the finer things in life.

9. Impact Festival — Friday, September 6 to Sunday, September 8

Impact is a transformational music festival that donates 100 percent of proceeds to clean water and harm reduction charities. The weekend features workshops, live painting, a giant spaceship stage, a village of vendors and a private beach.
