The largest interior design show on the West Coast returns, and it brings with it celebrity designers, exhibits, homewares, and more
The IDSwest trade show floor will be home to over 300 exhibits this year
The Interior Design Show West, one of the West Coast’s premier design shows, kicks off September 19 at the Vancouver Convention Centre West. IDSwest is the largest interior design show in Western Canada and features 300 curated exhibits, handcrafted jewelry and homeware, highly anticipated guest speakers and world-class installations.
Celebrity designers Brian Gluckstein, Tommy Smythe and Canadian House & Home’s Mark Challen are just a few of the big name speakers that will be on hand for the four-day event.
Get ready to dust off your designer taste buds at the GE Monogram Dinner by Design preshow event September 16-17. The two-day celebration formally kicks off IDSwest and includes a cocktail event and gala dinner.
Ten of the hottest West Coast interior and landscape designers will compete to create the best one-of-a-kind, three dimensional dining spaces all within the space of 24 hours!
The designers will then collectively host a gourmet, three-course meal by Culinary Capers. Competitors include interior designer Kelly Deck of Kelly Deck Design and architect David Nicolay of Evoke. Proceeds benefit the Dr. Peter AIDS Foundation.
“Our team is very excited about Dinner by Design because it provides us with the opportunity to take risks you can’t always explore when designing a home,” says Deck. “Playing with elements of architecture, craft and event planning, our dining room is a joyful expression of our love for beauty and creating spaces that alter peoples experience of the everyday.”
Also new this year, is the H&L Laneway home by Alair Homes Vancouver. The 516-square-foot property was designed by interior designer Gaile Guevara and combines creative design and maximum efficiency. The ultra modern building will be located on the showroom floor and auctioned off on Saturday, September 21 with all proceeds going toward the Alzheimer Society of BC.
“We were given only one requirement — a maximum square footage — otherwise we were free to design and build the home,” says Alair Homes Vancouver owner David Babakaiff. “We came up with this idea, the art of living small, and I believe people will consider the option of a compact living space differently after seeing the house.”
