Shop till you drop this weekend, as Black Friday sales hit Vancouver
Back when financial records were written by hand, red ink was used to show a loss and black ink was used to show a profit, hence the start of the phrase “Black Friday.”
These days, it’s the biggest sale day of the year in the U.S., with stores opening in the wee hours of the morning to hordes of die-hard shoppers hoping to snag a great deal.
This year Vancouver retailers want a piece of the action and are offering city-wide deals to entice shoppers to come out for one of the biggest Black Friday events north of the border. And best of all? There’s no need to bring your passport or pay duty on any of your purchases.
Nov. 29 to Dec. 1, various hours
In the biggest event of the weekend, 12 neighbourhoods across Vancouver are coming together to encourage local shopping for a Black Friday extravaganza, running from Nov. 29 to Dec. 1st.
Last year, the West 4th business improvement association was one of the first in B.C. to encourage its retailers to compete with the American sale day, and this year their CEO Russ Davies has come up with a bigger plan that includes 11 other shopping districts. Details of the promotions happening at individual stores will be posted on Nov. 27 at 12:01am at blackfridayvancouver.com.
Each BIA will keep you in the loop via their own Twitter feed, and will showcase deals in the area. As an added bonus, the Vancouver Trolley Company will be offering a free shuttle service stopping in the West End, Yaletown, Gastown, South Granville and West 4th.
There will be big sales in the following neighbourhoods:
