A Casey Anthony movie was inevitable, and the first, thought probably not last, has already signed Rob Lowe to star as Florida prosecutor Jeff Ashton

Well, you had to know it was coming. The first Casey Anthony TV movie has been announced — and unfortunately, it probably won’t be the last. After a successful turn in Lifetime’s Drew Peterson: Untouchable, Rob Lowe has signed on to star in another, tentatively titled Prosecuting Casey Anthony.
Lowe will play Jeff Ashton, Florida prosecutor in the Caylee Anthony murder trial and the author of the book Imperfect Justice: Prosecuting Casey Anthony. According to a press release, the movie “reveals Ashton’s inside story of the true crime drama that captivated and then shocked the nation when Caylee Anthony’s mother, Casey, was acquitted of killing her daughter, despite what many thought to be overwhelming evidence of guilt.”
The film tells the story of the trial from Ashton’s perspective, exploring the successes — and the ultimate failure — of the prosecution.
Rob Sharenow, Executive Vice President, Programming, of Lifetime Networks, says, “We’re thrilled to have Rob returning to our network, after his amazing star turn as Drew Peterson. He’s one of those rare stars who can do it all: comedy, drama, heroes and villains. There are very few actors in the history of our business who have been able to have such success on such a broad range.”
