Chloë Grace Moretz stars in futuristic sci-fi thriller The Peripheral
Flynne Fisher (Chloë Grace Moretz) is a smart, ambitious young woman living in the rural American South during the near future, when technological advances have taken society in some subtle new directions. Working at a local 3-D printing shop, she earns much-needed extra money by playing virtual reality games for rich people.
When her brother Burton (Jack Reynor, Midsommar), a veteran of the United States Marine Corps’ elite Haptic Recon force, is hired for a security job, he’s instructed to put on a high-tech helmet that brings him into what he thinks is virtual reality. When Flynne temporarily takes his place, she witnesses what appears to be a murder. As she explores the VR world, she finds herself in what looks a lot like London—but with some striking and bizarre differences.
Flynne comes to realize that what she’s experiencing is no game; she’s not in cyberspace but 70 years in the future, where the sparsely populated city is now home to the survivors of an apocalyptic event.Prime VideoMeanwhile, Flynne discovers that someone from that time has opened a door into her world, setting dangerous forces in motion while providing her with a dazzling, hallucinatory glimpse into the fate of humanity—and what lies beyond.
That’s the premise of The Peripheral, based on the novel by Vancouver-based sci-fi author William Gibson (Neuromancer, Johnny Mnemonic) and produced by Lisa Joy and Jonathan Nolan, creators of Westworld, while author and screenwriter Scott Smith (Siberia, The Burnt Orange Heresy) is creator and showrunner.
The Peripheral also stars Gary Carr, Eli Goree, Louis Herthum, JJ Feild, T’Nia Miller, Charlotte Riley, Alexandra Billings, Adelind Horan, Alex Hernandez, Katie Leung, Julian Moore-Cook, Melinda Page Hamilton, Chris Coy and Austin Rising.
Peripheral premieres Friday, October 21 on Prime Video
