Rock 101 announces the return of Willy Percy to radio with ‘Willy In The Morning’

It’s been a year and a half since taking a hiatus from radio, the Larry and Willy show, and living the dream on the airwaves, and I bet you’ve just been itching to know where I’ve been. Well, I’ve just been itching due to a dry skin condition I picked up during my travels. However, I’m excited to announce that after taking some time off, I’m refreshed, I’m back, and starting November 12th, I’ll be on Rock 101 with my new morning show, Willy In The Morning, on Rock 101.

So where have I been? Holy smokes! I have been everywhere. I’ve been to Pitt Meadows, Ridge Meadows, White Rock, South White Rock, Hong Kong, Miami, Langley, East Langley, the Bahamas, New York, Fort Langley, East Langley (again!), France, Vietnam … you get the point.

And, boy I have seen and done some things that I can’t wait to tell you about. I visited a 60-foot-high Buddha in Hong Kong that sits on top of a mountain. I snorkeled a sunken plane that crashed on take-off in the Bahamas, and saw an accordionist who couldn’t play a lick in the subways of Paris – he was awful, I mean awful. I toured temples in Bali, and I even visited Château de Vaux-le-Vicomte, a huge castle built in 17th century. Google it.

I also took some time to coach my son’s hockey team, which I never would have had the chance to do if I hadn’t taken the year off. Instead of yelling at one 10-year-old I got to yell at 20!  And I think this, coaching my son’s hockey team, is what gave me the inspiration to get back into radio. Dealing with those kids all the time? Are you kidding, I needed a break!

But, the time has come for me to get back to what I do, and that is radio. It is an outlet to entertain, share stories and discuss pop culture – whether that is Rob Ford smoking crack, or police taser’ing a lama down the highway. (And let me tell you, my 10 and 14-year old sons were getting really bored of my stories). So I’ve been desperately missing it all – the camaraderie, the energy, the bad food and the stale coffee – and I’m so excited to get back and do what I love most. And that’s to entertain.

Although I may doing it solo for the first time in 28 years, I can say that whatever you thought Rock 101 was, I hope to make it better. At least, I have high hopes! It’s just going to be an awful lot of fun.

Willy Percy is one of Vancouver’s most iconic and longest-running radio personalities. He has entertained morning commuters for over 20 years as part of the well known ‘Larry and Willy’ on air duo. Following a break from the airwaves for over a year, Willy has returned to radio to host the ‘Willy in the Morning’ show on popular Classic Rock 101. Willy began his career in radio in the 1980’s in Ontario and then moved to BC, where he has been a fixture on Vancouver radio for nearly a quarter of a century.
