Your old pal Dave is back at Netflix for another season, chatting with Kanye West, Ellen DeGeneres, Tiffany Haddish, Melinda Gates and Formula 1 racer Lewis Hamilton. Also, this time all the interviews drop at once, ripe for the bingeing!
What transpired in the final moments of The Handmaid’s Tale‘s second season was hardly what viewers were expecting from their cape-donning protagonist. After a season of searching for a way to save herself and her unborn child from the dire fate that awaited them, fans of the dystopian drama cried out in astonishment as? June (Elisabeth Moss) decided not to escape totalitarian Gilead, instead opting to hand her newborn child off to Emily (Alexis Bledel) and continue her quest—a mission many see as better served through diplomatic service.
As the next chapter begins, observers are still wondering what possessed June to turn on her heels, but the creators of the series see the character’s resolve to not just save her firstborn, Hannah, but to take on her oppressors, as a natural progression. From episode one, what we’ve seen is that June’s a fighter, says executive producer Warren Littlefield. This year opens a door to a journey of the radicalization of June. It’s not just about survival, it’s about larger goals that are outside of her and outside of her family. The thematic this year is ‘Blessed Be the Fight.’
When a seemingly limited series about the secret lives of five female friends within an affluent pocket of society is so successful that a second season becomes a virtual necessity, how do you recreate lightning in a bottle that already contains Oscar-winners Nicole Kidman and Reese Witherspoon? You hire Meryl Streep, of course. This summer, the three-time Academy Award winner joins an already-impressive all-star lineup as the mother-in-law of Kidman’s character, Celeste, whose abusive husband, played by Alexander Skarsgård, took a fatal tumble in the season-one finale. To get to the bottom of her son’s untimely death, his curious mother Mary Louise comes to town and—surprise, surprise—already-tenuous relationships start to crack.
There have been plenty of casting changes, dynamic shifts and power struggles in the latest season of this financially-driven character study, but it all comes to a close this week with what we can only imagine will be another big twist, taking us into the already-ordered fifth season.
As evidenced by last week’s premiere, this dance battle is showing us? some new steps this year, recruiting Laurieann Gibson (Lady Gaga’s longtime choreographer and creative director) and Emmy-winning SYTYCD alum Dominic D-Trix Sandoval to join Nigel Lythgoe and Mary Murphy at the judging table. Also back? OG host Cat Deeley. (As if we could ever have a season of SYTYCD without Cat!)
Given that he’s a chart-topping comedian—his album Live From Seattle reached the giddy heights of Billboard’s Comedy Albums page—you’d think more people would know who Jo Koy is… until you realize just how few copies you have to sell to top that chart, at which point it makes complete sense. That said, Koy has plenty of fans, as proven by the fact that he was named Standup Comedian of the Year at the 2018 Just for Laughs Comedy Festival in Montreal. (Well, that and the fact that he sells out shows all over the place.)
For his latest special, recorded in Hawaii, Koy continues to offer up family-centric material, including bits about filter-free fatherhood, cultural curiosities and more. He’s also about to embark on the Just Kidding World Tour, and it’s full of material not in this special, so don’t miss it!
Most casino-dwellers know that a single card can change your entire life; now, savvy producers are hoping that excitement will translate to TV via this latest summer game show revival. With some serious cash on the line each episode, contestants’ fates rest on the flip of a deck of oversized playing cards. The Soup‘s Joel McHale hosts.
Fox has enjoyed immense success with the dispatcher-cop-fireman drama 9-1-1, to the point where the network has already ordered a Texas-set spinoff featuring Rob Lowe; but before that, Fox is offering up a taste of all the real-life day-to-day anarchy via this unscripted series tackling the stories of first responders and the people whose lives they’re tasked with saving.
The unprecedented look at the men and women who answer emergency calls across America kicks off this week, hosted by Emmy-winning TV journalist Josh Elliott (late of CBS News). With cameras embedded ?in several major cities, each episode follows firefighters, police, EMS techs and other first responders who put themselves on the line each and every day.
Get ready to watch? supermodel Karlie Kloss? conclude her first season? as host of TV’s most? stylish reality competition, as she, mentor Christian Siriano and judges Nina Garcia, Brandon Maxwell and Elaine Welteroth welcome a new winner into the Project Runway pantheon in the season-17 finale.
Recently released from prison, professional thief Daisy Jett Kowalski (Carla Gugino of Sin City fame) is ready to hang it up and retire from crime—or so she thinks. When she’s made an offer she can’t refuse by powerful crime boss Charlie Baudelaire (Giancarlo Esposito, Breaking Bad), she agrees to postpone her retirement in order? to pull off one last heist, which involves heading to Cuba to steal a ring from an Eastern European crime lord. Unfortunately for Jett, this sets off an unforeseen chain of events that completely blows up her retirement plans, pulling her back into a series of dangerous assignments masterminded by some of the world’s most ruthless criminals, determined to exploit her unique skill set for their own unsavoury ends. Other stars in this nine-episode series include Elena Anaya (The Skin I Live In), Michael Aronov (The Americans), Gaite Jansen (Peaky Blinders) and Gil Bellows (Ally McBeal).
