From Canada's big day to Canada's big race, we round up our top 10 shows to watch this week
Originally aired in celebration of Canada’s 150th anniversary last year, CTV is serving up another opportunity to watch this extraordinary documentary special that culled moments from more than 16,000 videos shot by ordinary Canadians during a single day. The brainchild of Vancouver filmmaker Trish Dolman, Canada in a Day is intended as a time capsule for Canada, a snapshot of a 24-hour period in the life of our home and native land. I just wanted to reflect who we are, Dolman explained. There are a lot of Indigenous stories, immigration stories, refugee stories. There are stories from people from every walk of life. That’s what we really wanted.
This one-hour special features highlights from the Canada Day festivities taking place? at Parliament Hill in Ottawa. In addition to the spectacular fireworks, viewers will also be treated to performances from an array of Canadian artists, including Arkells, Lights, Quebec chanteuse Brigitte Boisjoli, pop singer Ruth B., indigenous EDM artist Iskwé, folk-bluegrass ensemble The Dead South and many more.
In a series loaded with them, perhaps no development was more shocking than the season-four murder of Raina St. Patrick, the beloved teenage daughter of Tasha and James Ghost St. Patrick.
Raina was the only person in the world who Ghost knew he could trust, more so than Tasha (Naturi Naughton), comrade and business associate Tommy (Joseph Sikora) or ex-girlfriend Angela (Lela Loren). So as season five gets underway, his mind is set on revenge, and he throws himself headlong into his work, reaching new professional heights that could be endangered by his quest for blood.
Apparently, Reggie Watts isn’t being kept busy enough over at The Late Late ?Show With James Corden, because he’s stepping out for a side gig. Adapted from the U.K. series of the same name, Taskmaster finds Watts teamed with Alex Horne, the show’s original creator, and the twosome send the show’s celebrity guests on a series of nutty tasks, after which the winner of the competition will receive as a prize some possession offered up by one of the competitors.
As the most-watched Canadian program of the 2016-’17 broadcast year, The Amazing Race Canada has captured our nation’s collective spirit for adventure. And as it premieres its sixth season on Tuesday, it does so by adding a dash of appreciation for our everyday heroes. This special Heroes Edition features teachers, first responders, parents, community leaders, mentors, athletes and other everyday heroes with a story to tell.
Even if you’ve never shopped at Macy’s, odds are you’re familiar with the U.S. department store’s annual fireworks spectacular. If you don’t get enough pyrotechnics on Canada Day, be sure to set your dials for this special presentation.
The live two-hour broadcast is set to boast as much star power as it will multicoloured pyrotechnics, making it a spectacle for people of all ages. The festivities are broadcast from the East River in New York City, with music that show officials are calling classic tunes reimagined with refreshing twists and new arrangements, all delivered in cinematic sound.
Among those offerings will be a rendition of Irving Berlin’s God Bless America, which is celebrating its 100th anniversary, sung this time around by the one and only Kelly Clarkson.
Netflix has been throwing around some serious money to lock in such comedy talent as Adam Sandler, Dave Chappelle, Chris Rock, David Letterman and others in order to ensure the streaming service will be home to their future projects.
One of the biggest Netflix gets has been Jerry Seinfeld, who signed a massive deal worth a reported $100 million that includes comedy specials and his post-Seinfeld interview series Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee (which launched on Crackle).
In addition to granting Netflix the exclusive right to air the previous nine Comedians in Cars seasons, the deal also includes a brand-new season set to launch Friday, which will feature guest stars such as Kate McKinnon, Ellen DeGeneres, Dana Carvey, Tracy Morgan, Alec Baldwin, Zach Galifianakis, Tom Hanks and the late Jerry Lewis.
The comedic docuseries wraps its first season this week, which means that Ramesh’s show at the Greek Theatre is finally happening, but will enough people turn up to make the stunt worthwhile?

The eight-episode thriller, which is subtitled for North American audiences, is based on the bestselling 2006 novel by Vikram Chandra and ?is directed by acclaimed filmmakers Vikramaditya Motwane (Trapped) and the Indian Tarantino, Anurag Kashyap (Gangs of Wasseypur).
