We ask local celebs Ann Luu, Erin Cebula and Kid Carson which patio they call home during the warm summer days
Favourite patio? “I love Cioppino’s in Yaletown. They really do treat you like family there. The patio is low-key-ish – perfect for conversation and epic service. They have the best sangria too; my fiancée saw a pic of it on Instagram and that’s what first brought us into the joint. I think they use a whole bottle of wine. For food, I order the Paccheri di Gragnano, which is basically an amazing pasta with Saltspring Island lamb sausage sauce. Wow. And a glass of ‘cougar juice’ (Rombauer Chardonnay).”
Sangria or margarita? “I always start with a margarita and take a minute to think about my last vacation. Has anyone ever said a margarita could be meditative? ’Cause it can be!”
Favourite patio? “The view from Lift’s patio is breathtaking – you are right on the water in Coal Harbour looking at the majestic North Shore mountains. On a warm summer night, you don’t want to leave. And the sablefish is to die for. Not only is it my favourite fish, but it also comes with maple-glazed pork belly and white truffle. You can’t go wrong. Add in a fun cocktail – my fave is their Lost Lagoon martini – and you have the perfect combination.”
Sangria or margarita? “Why choose just one? If I have to, I would pick the blended margarita. It’s tropical and it takes me away to a holiday destination in my mind. It has to be strawberry.
Which Vancouver patio do you wish were still open? “The original Delilah’s on Haro Street in the West End.”
Favourite patio? “The Royal Vancouver Yacht Club in Point Grey – all you need to do is befriend one member (like I did) and you can enjoy some of the best views of downtown (pictured), affordable wines and a no-cellphone policy. They also havea lovely shrimp and crab salad that’s perfect for a patio lunch.”
Sangria or margarita? “I’m a margarita girl all the way. Tequila is the only liquor that’s a stimulant and not a depressant. And I love to be stimulated. Olé!”
Which Vancouver patio do you wish were still open? “I had some really great times on The Monk McQueens patio in Stamps Landing.”
