We’re following TV shows New Girl and Girls closely for the latest style trends
Yes, we’re devastated that season 1 of the gut-wrenchingly honest HBO show Girls has come to end. We’ll miss every awkward ‘oh no she didn’t’ moment – and there were many. But most of all, we’re disappointed that we won’t be able to gawk at our favourite bohemian style crush every week.
Only Jessa, played by the lovely Jemima Kirke, could resurrect the silky palazzo pant and make it look effortlessly cool. The curvy blonde also favoured printed scarves, vintage pajama sets, Louis Vuitton luggage and flowing maxi dresses.
Beauty tips: Apply a bright, bold lipstick and lashings of mascara; perfect the casual topknot bun or go for a messy French braid.Style steal: Try a translucent white maxi over a florescent bikini for summer cocktails after a day at the beach, or raid your neighbourhood thrift store for one-of-a-kind silk jackets and pair with your high-street basics. Most importantly, make sure to strut with confidence everywhere you go.
Zooey Deschanel is known for being an eccentric, indie actress. And she certainly dresses the part. You won’t find her in skinny jeans, high heels or any of the trends du jour. Instead, she’s perfected a feminine, playful look and sports mostly 50s-inspired floral dresses, flats and full-bodied skirts.
It’s no wonder then, that her character, Jess, on New Girl (a show she produces), follows the same style sensibilities. Jess adores block colours, often wearing contrasting flats with a cute dress. The look also mixes preppy elements like cardigans and jackets worn with flirty pieces.
Beauty tips: Jess is fresh-faced but has wavy tresses with Deschanel’s trademark bangs.Style steal: Look for bright dresses from H&M or Zara and pair with one-off pieces from Etsy.com. Feel free to clash prints – the bolder the contrast, the better. Don’t forget to find a pair of thick, black-rimmed glasses to complete the look.

If you haven’t seen Wes Anderson’s latest triumph, you’d better hop to it. Set in 1965, it’s a story about young love, and stars the beautiful Kara Hayward as the oddball Suzie.
Suzie loves French music and fantasy books, and seems wise beyond her years. We adore her cute lace shift dresses with their Peter Pan collars. While we’re pretty sure frilly knee socks are not going to make a comeback, paired with saddle shoes, they looked almost too precious for words.
Beauty tips: There wasn’t a girl in the theatre that didn’t covet Suzie’s beautiful red hair but it was her perma blue eyeshadow that really caught our eye. Not an easy look to pull off; we recommend you build up the intensity slowly, and find a shade of blue that works for you.Style steal: Try pale yellow if you’re deathly afraid of bold colours. And if you’re feeling adventurous, you can always top off your look with a beret.
