Wish you could stay in a luxury hotel all the time? Now you can bring a little of that on-the-road elegance home
Both fashion designers and interior designers are being tapped by luxury hotels to create special suites, common areas and outdoor spaces – sometimes even the entire property – with the designers’ signature look.
Here’s a peek at five hotels, each with a distinctive designer look and feel of its own, complete with furniture and accessory ideas so you can get the look in your own home.
Read on to find a style that suits you, and steal it!
Quirky, cartwheeling fashion designer Betsey Johnson is known for her obsession with pink, and her mixed-up world of feminine florals, canopy stripes and animal prints. Eloise, of course, is the charming fictional heroine of Kay Thompson’s classic book of the same name who was raised in the Plaza Hotel. Johnson couldn’t be a better fit to bring this storybook hotel-look to life in a suite that is surely every little girls’ dream.

(Bottom, centre) Rose lampshade. Pottery Barn Kids, $119.

This New England beachfront inn recently had a complete face-lift, including two suites by interior designer Jonathan Adler. Loved for his sense of humour and use of colour, Adler’s esthetic is beautifully demonstrated here with a sea-side palette of blues and greens paired with crisp white bedding and nods to the nautical.
Hotel Original Paris is a swishy, small Parisian hotel of 38 guest rooms located close to the Bastille Opera and decorated entirely by fashion designer Stella Cadente. “I dress houses like I dress people,” says Cadente. Her design sensibility is modern and romantic with just a touch of rock ’n’ roll. Architectural touches such as the chocolate-brown walls, textural hits like the fur throw, deep tub, floaty lighting, and wall mural create a sensual stay.
This glam go-to West Hollywood hotel was originally designed by iconic designer Philippe Starck in 1996. The Mondrian was renovated again in 2008 by interior designer Benjamin Noriega-Ortiz with the intention to “eradicate Starck’s original vision, build on it and enhance it.” Skybar, the hotel’s outdoor lounge and scenester poolside deck, had a recent facelift to L.A. patio-style at its best.
All-American designer Ralph Lauren’s oceanfront guest rooms at Round Hill Hotel and Villas are a Caribbean resort paradise where jet-setters recharge. Lauren’s timeless look rarely changes whether it is his fashion or décor. In this case, dark-mahogany woods, crisp-white cotton mixed with luxe velvets, and ceiling fans create an airy atmosphere any weary, well-heeled traveller requires.
