Wow guests at your next celebration with these fabulous decor tips and tricks from Sparkle Media's Erin Sousa
It’s party time, but there’s no need to stress. It doesn’t take much to create an elevated feel at your next gathering. Going the extra mile with decor and food is a lovely way to show your guests how much you care.
Click through for tips and tricks from Sparkle Media’s Erin Sousa for how to create a super stylish fête dedicated to the new baby on the way…
“Designing a focal point for the party is always a great way to make the space feel festive and special. I let the dessert buffet become the focal point and added lots of decor and sweets to add opulence and style.”
“I worked my details around the colour palette. Because this shower was for a baby boy, and keeping the mom-to-be’s style in mind, I veered away from the typical blue. Neutrals can really look upscale for a shower so the black and white created a more refined, yet whimsical, feel thanks to some of the fun decor details.”
“I always set a loose theme for an event and then work within it for the food, decor and design. For this baby shower, I was inspired by the sparkly black cake topper, and let that dictate my colours. From there, I considered seasonality, and since it’s spring, brought in florals in different iterations (fresh, of course) from Flower Factory; paper from Mur de Fleurs; sugar in the form of floral marshmallows from Archimallows; and a table runner from Whiskey + Cake Home.”
“The menu is another chance to create something both delicious and special. Because the shower started at 11 a.m. on a Sunday, we went with a casual brunch feel, including a bagel bar (complete with cream cheese, lox and capers), scones, quiche, fresh fruit and watermelon salad. To drink, doughnut-topped raspberry lemonade sparklers made for a pretty, fun and seasonal choice.”
“A great dessert bar encompasses an array of special sweets, like the cake, cupcakes and doughnuts from Sweet Bake Shop. Layering these using different ways of presentation, such as cake platters of differing heights, skewers and various vessels, makes everything look pretty and festive.”
“Unique details really set the tone and make your guests feel special. I always like my parties to be detailed, but not overly fussy, so wall decor, like these handmade paper flowers from Mur de Fleurs, the cake topper and a letter balloon banner are little attention grabbers that work perfectly for the event.”
