Deck your home this season with modern furniture and accessories for a steal

Furniture warehouse sales bring deep discounts—but without a showroom set up stylishly, it can be a challenge to imagine that perfect piece in your home. There’s no need to miss out on the treasure hunt—just come armed with a shopping list, measurements and even pictures of your home on your smartphone, says Clifford Goodwill, EQ3’s director of interior design and store planning.

Since you never know what you’ll find hidden among the aisles, start off by making a “most-wanted” list of items, whether you’re in search of accessories such as mirrors and pillows, a desk for your spare room or bigger-ticket items like tailored sofas and customized dining tables.

“If you are looking for a larger piece, such as a sofa or bed, make sure to measure your space and bring those dimensions with you,” Goodwill says. And go even further: “Consider how the items will be brought into your space: measure doorways, hallways and corners to ensure your new pieces will fit.”

Above all, take your time. Get a lay of the land by exploring the warehouse and then zero-in on specific pieces once you’ve had a good look. Don’t be impulsive either: check everything from top to bottom (and inside) before making a commitment.

“If you really like a piece of furniture make sure to open all drawers, inspect the finish or assess the upholstery,” says Goodwill. “The majority of items are in excellent condition, but if there is a small scratch it’s best to know about it beforehand.”

And be sure to share the shopping joy! Bring a friend along to provide that much-needed second opinion and extra set of eyes for spotting an ideal item at a steal this season.

The EQ3 warehouse sale runs November 16 to December 31, 2016 at its temporary location (1311 United Boulevard) in Coquitlam. Find modern furniture and accessories from dining room tables to desks at more than 80 per cent off (Canadian-made upholstery items are up to 60 per cent off), with new items added daily. The following hours make it easy to shop often:

  • Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday: 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
  • Thursday, Friday: 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.
  • Saturday: 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
  • Sunday: 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.

If you can’t make to the warehouse sale, don’t despair. EQ3’s South Granville store (2436 Granville street) has more holiday promotions in store. Plus, you can choose from an array of colours and fabrics to customize items like sofas and beds to match your decor.
